AIM Joraco® designed a custom work cell able to punch four holes simultaneously in stamp-formed parts, integrate with our client’s automated production line, and move between manufacturing locations. Remote piston technology powered multiple Hydro-Aire™ Series hydro-pneumatic cylinders to accommodate limited space and the parts’ geometry.
Using stress simulations and iterative design, the team refined a mobile stand and structural supports that allowed the system to be easily moved between manufacturing locations while remaining securely in place during operation. To perform the punching operation custom tooling was designed to maintain punch and die alignment while allowing access for maintenance and changeovers. The process required simultaneously punching four holes at different locations on the part. To accomplish this while minimizing the amount of pneumatic cylinders required remote piston technology was used to power the four punching cylinders with just two full length hydro-pneumatic cylinders.
Built around the customer’s requirements, AIM Joraco® created a system that is designed for reliable punching, smooth part handling, and integration with the existing production line.
