Not too big, Not too small: The One Press That Can Handle It All.

Joraco Press Company is proud to announce the newest addition to the TOGGLE-AIRE® Series press line- The Model 8500, the most powerful toggle press in its history. The Model 8500 develops only the amount of force needed to perform the work when the shut height is set for the part. The press will also maintain tool depth control to a tolerance of +/-.001" repeatable with every stroke. Although it is capable of tremendous forces from a standard 100 PSI air supply line, it can also perform the most delicate operations that require precision over power.

Core Features

The size and capabilities of the new Model 8500 puts it in a great position as a replacement for many mechanical flywheel presses in manufacturing. It can be configured as a stand-alone press or configured into an assembly work cell. Applications such as Staking, Swaging, Clinching, Riveting, Punching, and Stamping are all well-suited for the Model 8500, but it can be tooled and fixtured to perform a multitude of operations without a concern for damaging delicate parts. Using its innovative toggle linkage design and the principle of reaction forces, the Model 8500 will use as little or as much of the available force to complete the job.

As an example, a common assembly operation is to lock an assembly together using a rolled rivet so that it maintains a loose fit, such as with a pair of garden shears. Using a Model 8500 tooled with a Rivet Package, an operator can set the Shut Height such that the tool will round the rivet head to specific, repeatable dimension that still allows the parts to move-- not by setting the amount of force as usually assumed. As the press actuates through the force curve, it will stop at the shut height dimension setting. Whether the rivet is large or small, hard or soft, the press will only use as much force as it needs to get to the closed dimension (as long as the total force needed is within the available force of the set up.)

The key advantage of the Model 8500 is the operator does not have to worry having too much or too little force, nor worry about damaging parts or assemblies. Above all, it is an inherent mechanical feature of the press, not a result of electronic intervention, sensors, servos, or even tooling and fixturing. The TOGGLE-AIRE® Series of presses have been a core product line for Joraco Press Company for decades, but with this introduction of the Model 8500, the application potential has now doubled that of the previous 1030, 1530, 2530, and 3530 configurations, all while still having the ability to handle the same jobs as its smaller family members; not too big, not too small- one press that can handle it all.

Construction

Due to the increased forces and larger cylinder, Joraco engineered a new press frame from 2" cold rolled carbon steel that was further machined to precision dimensions. Additionally, the Model 8500 comes mounted on its own custom floor stand rated for its weight and forces. With supplied adjustable feet, the work area is placed at a natural height for most operators.

For rigidity and precision, the massive frame is further machined after assembly and bolster plate mounting points are surface ground for ultimate control over the accuracy and repeatability of the work area. Standard bolster plates are 14" x 10" and are also precision ground for flatness.

The hand assembled pneumatic cylinders feature lathed and honed brass with machined 6061 aluminum end plates. Links, levers, and pins are hardened and treated for durability. The chrome plated ram is guided by press fit brass bushings, and the whole linkage system is lubricated using the standard One Shot Lubrication system mounted on the frame. The pneumatic valves and fittings are of the highest quality and are generally universal to promote repairability and prevent obsolescence.

As with all TOGGLE-AIRE® Series presses, the Model 8500 is designed, fabricated, and assembled in the same US based facility in Smithfield, RI. The value add that comes with the machine is our ability to easily customize it with Packages, Options, and Accessories that help customers achieve their specific applications. There is also an unlimited variety of customizations available with the help of Joraco Press Company's in-house engineers who use the latest 3D design software to model customizations, tooling design, and fixturing.

Safety

Like all toggle presses, the Model 8500 is inherently safer and more efficient than mechanical presses of the past; the press is never in a constant energized state making it susceptible to accidents. If anything were to fail on the press, it would "fail safe" and only retract. Furthermore, there are many ways to control the press, from a standard two hand, anti-tie down controller to full PLC automated control.

Though safety should never be an option, we do offer upgrades to the Model 8500 that meet the needs of many workplaces around the world, including Light Curtains, Custom Guarding Options, Lock Out Valves, and Optical Touch Controllers. Joraco Press Company is ready and able to make sure our machines match your or exceed your safety Standards.
